Hikoi with Ole
Te Taiwahanga Rangatahi went on a hikoi with both Ole Maiava and Rachel Sosene of Eke Panuku. We started our check-ins at the containers named Auaha o Manukau. Whare Takiura was the first containers we went to where we pulled out some couches so we can sit and get to know each other. It was a cold day but also cool to start our check-in on a day where the sun was shining. We also walked over to the Manukau Square where we got an explanation and got to experience some designs of indigenous navigation.
We went to the stone sculptures which had implanted augmented reality (AR) onto it. Its located right in front of the grid in Manukau, where you use the app and your camera to view an avatar that gives an explanation on the journey of Manu. (The app is called journey of Manu created by ARA journeys)
We also went over to two other containers, one of them was called Whare Toi and that resides next to the Manukau library. There’s videos and sounds of birds on the digital screen they installed into the container.
Another container named Whare Takaro is placed at Haymond park, which only had a small explanation of what was going on in Haymond park. We went back to our starting point at the Whare Takiura our first container to end the day. It was an amazing experience and can’t wait to see what the containers can do for our community.
