AI Civics in Practice: Strengthening Agency For Whānau & Hapori

In this interactive session Tyrone Tangata Makiri (Kūki ʻĀirani, Ngāpuhi) of Second Half, shared his experiences working with AI alongside hapori and within his own whānau. Using real examples, Tyrone showed how hapori and whānau are engaging with these tools, and how they can be used in ways that support whānau aspirations and enable more collective forms of decision making.

Tyrone Tangata-Makiri has a background in Creative Technologies, Community Development and Business Development. He now co-leads Second Half helping community and community-driven organisations navigate AI with confidence. He’s a father of two, a loyal Wahs and Minnesota Timberwolves fan, and just as comfortable in a deep kōrero as he is with a plate of ika mata.

A visual summary of the session, completed by the super talented Jacqui Chan, can be viewed and downloaded below.
