What matters most to whānau in a WCTO service
April 2026
Tamariki Wellbeing
This report shares views from whānau about what matters most to them in a Well Child Tamariki Ora service to understand what a flexible, inclusive and empowering approach looks like in practice.
This report is the third of four learning reports from a collaboration between Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, community based providers and TSI’s Tamariki Wellbeing Team to prototype changes to the WCTO service.
The WCTO providers involved in the prototype were selected for their well-developed models of care, which reflect a deep understanding of their communities, strong relationships with whānau, and a demonstrated commitment to holistic, culturally responsive practice.
By talking in-depth to 36 whānau with tamariki enrolled in their services, we were able to build a rich picture of what matters to whānau in a WCTO service. This included what it looks like in practice when kaimahi build trusted relationships, wrap tailored care around the whole whānau and empower them with the knowledge and support they need to flourish.
You can find more information on this prototype and links to the three other reports here.
